A New Kind of Diversity

I was just 18 years old when I went to my first amBi event. I was fresh out of the closet and was in a romantic relationship with a guy for the first time in my life.

It was an evening BBQ party in the garden of the Hollywood LGBT Center. A terrific band called the Podunk Poets were playing. People were dancing under the twinkling lights. It was fun. My impression of the event was very positive, so I have stayed with amBi ever since.

Seeing so many people of all ages, all physiques, and different socioeconomic statuses changed my perception about bisexuality. Gathered together in one space were many people of all stripes who just happened to be bi. I felt like I was being accepted into a great group. Meeting these like minded individuals made me realize that there is no reason to feel alone.

I've now been an active member of the LA, Ashland, and San Diego chapters for over two years. During this time, I have met many people who are very different from one another, yet they all have an open and accepting attitude in common. In this sense, amBi is at once extremely diverse and totally cohesive.

The variety of activities and ecclectic people that amBi has to offer really make it a unique club. Every time I attend an event, I feel like I'm visiting family. I go with the intention of making new friends and catching up with old ones. An empowering sense of community is present at every single amBi meeting. It's not just another social club; amBi is something truly special.
